MOVIMËNT, SUMMER 2018: THE NEW FACILITIES FOR SPORTSPEOPLE AND FAMILIES

A season of discovery and excitement to be enjoyed at the cool altitude of 2000 metres. New features for 2018 include the new Bike Beats trails - adrenaline-charged routes through the green countryside, and team activities such as high-altitude running and an increasingly more dog-friendly welcome.

A desire for sun, mountains and plenty of fresh and clean air, savouring all the fragrance of summer and freedom. From 16 June to 23 September Movimënt will be open again: the plateau, at an altitude of 2000 metres in the heart of Alta Badia, awaits sports enthusiasts, families and all those who wish to enjoy the natural surroundings of a completely car-free park, accessible only by ski-lift.

Movimënt, as its name implies, never stops, and to make summer 2018 really special, it has prepared a number of surprises dedicated to various types of guests, including our four-legged friends.

For the many cyclists who choose this green oasis - one of the starting points of the legendary Sellaronda MTB Tour - three new trails have been created, in addition to a group tour program; runners will be able to take advantage of team activities; children will find more water games and orienteering courses; and finally, the park is increasingly dog friendly.

To reach the park, there's Alta Badia Summer, a convenient card which gives adults and children access to the 15 summer lifts of the area, as well as buses. Bicycle transport is always included. Another solution is the Dolomiti Supersummer Card, the summer version of the Dolomiti Superski, which gives access to about 90 lifts in the Dolomites.

Bike Beats and new cycling features

Cyclists are at home in Movimënt, where they will find many kilometres of trails through high-altitude woods and mountain pastures. This summer the big news is the Bike Beats bike trails, three beaten tracks surrounded by a wild natural environment covering a total of 4,760 metres, easily accessible by ski lifts from all the towns of Alta Badia.

These are "flow" downhill runs in beaten earth and sand, smooth and fast, with small obstacles and bridges, kept constantly in perfect condition. They start by descending on both sides from the Piz Sorega mountain, with the red trail (1,290 m, medium difficulty, 9-14% gradient) and the green trail (1,469 m, easy, average 8.5% gradient, perfect for anyone over 8 years of age), before coming together above the Pic Prè mountain refuge into a single trail, the blue trail (2 km, medium-easy, average 12% gradient).

The Movimënt staff is always there to provide advice and directions, while every Thursday afternoon a mountain bike instructor follows and accompanies the less experienced and those who want to improve their technique. Bicycles can be hired both downstream and upstream of the trails.

These trails are suitable for a broad range of cyclists, but at the same time they can put even expert bikers to the test: it is not surprising that the new trails, especially the red and blue ones, are at the centre of two events due to take place this summer. On 7 and 8 July, a stage of the international Rookies Cup circuit will be run; a chance to admire the best Under-19 downhill specialists at work, while on 29 July, it will be the turn of one of the stages of the E-Enduro Race, a competition dedicated to e-bikes, for which registration is already open.

But before dashing down the Bike Beats, a piece of advice: a few laps around the two pumptrack circuits, that of Piz Sorega and the wooden circuit of Piz La Ila - recently expanded and modified -, both ideal for a good warm-up. Without pedalling, taking advantage of the boost provided by the whoops - the humps positioned at strategic points - muscles can be trained and balance, fluidity and coordination can be improved

Finally, another new feature has been added for those who want to have fun in the company of others, starting with the discovery of the local area, by mountain bike, but also by e-bike: group tours with an accompanying person, organized every week.

A world dedicated to cyclists and families

After a few months of rest, the summer opening of Movimënt means lots of fun for adults and children alike: in the coming months, the number of days dedicated to accompanied outings will increase compared to previous summers, as will the number of paths dedicated to orienteering.
The small lakes of Piz La Ila and Piz Sorega are particularly appreciated, rich in Kneipp paths and relaxation areas, while in Vallon, under the Boè, you can look out over a beautiful natural lake lying in a basin, a silent corner of paradise. Parents can relax while the children explore the Bear Park minigolf, the installations, the water games, the zip-line, the Spaghettino Park, the Dolomites Faces and take part in the programme of weekly activities. Those seeking exciting pastimes will be spoilt for choice, from biking to e-biking, geocaching, via ferrata, climbing, paragliding, archery and much more.

High-altitude running: training muscles and mind

On the Movimënt plateau, the alternation of elevation gains and breathtaking scenery transforms any racing experience into an adventure amid nature. Above all if the challenge is taken up in "team" mode by taking part in one of the season's most energy-packed new features: the high-altitude running proposals.

A half-day, scheduled once a week, to be spent in a group, accompanied by a Movimënt team member. A chance to discover the training routes in the area and keep in shape in company. Surrounded by all the enchantment of the mountains, alpine pastures, lodges and waterfalls, but also by the flavours and fragrances of Alta Badia, to be enjoyed in the mountain chalets.

A dog friendly paradise

Your four-legged friends are also welcome. Movimënt welcomes dogs and allows them to board the cableways free of charge – including in a booked cable car together with their owners – and with a free snack provided. What is more, on the plateau itself are play areas in which to strengthen the dog-owner bond through the agility dog facility, small high-altitude pools in which to cool off after a run, dog bar upstream of the lifts, dog toilets along the walking paths and an ad hoc treatment in dog friendly shelters, such as the Pralongià, Biok, I Tablà and Boconara huts.
