The season of darting down the runs, lunching in mountain refuges, crisp mountain air, and whitewashed peaks is returning, beginning in the most auspicious way thanks to the latest beautiful snowfalls. There are many events scheduled in 2019-2020: the plateau is one of the highlights of Dolomiti Superski, the largest ski carousel in the world, which aims to raise the standards of quality each year, drawing skiing enthusiasts with a calendar of proposals.
The skiing area connections are scheduled to open on Wednesday 4 December, but the actual inauguration is planned for Saturday 7: after the success of last year, the Ladin-style Invern Opening Party is returning. Throughout the day, mountain refuges will offer live music and typical dishes to savour: Club Moritzino will host the historic Cenomani band specialising in crossover music, while you can let your hair down at the Piz Boè refuge with a DJ set and a degustation of local wines. The I Tablà refuge will inaugurate the day with Ladin-style music performed by Da Piz a Ciantun.
At 4:30 pm, after a final run down the slope, the second part of the party begins with an après-ski at the foot of the Gran Risa slope, where the Ski World Cup is held. This is followed, from 9 pm onwards, by DJs from Radio Ö3, in the company of the young champions from the Ski club's Ladinia Ski team.
The season's first major event is obviously the Ski World Cup on 22-23 December: on Sunday the giant slalom takes places, while on Monday the night-version of the parallel giant slalom takes centre stage on the illuminated track. Two classic competitions on the white circuit with the Gran Risa slope as its protagonist, one of the most exciting runs in the Alps.
It is an opportunity to inaugurate the new Audi brand lounge located right in front of the arrival point. The other renovated and improved lounges along the course provide privileged observation points to admire some of the best athletes of the moment. A surprise awaits skiers on Monday morning when the slopes open early at 7:15 am. You can admire the colours and fairytale atmosphere of the dawn during your first few runs. There's more: 5 mountain refuges offer a unique champion's breakfast specially prepared by Iader Fabbri, famous dietitian and sports nutritionist. Each "location" hosts a former ski champion, ready to offer advice and propose one of the ingredients that make up the perfect meal to start the day, from fruit to dairy products, from cold cuts to eggs. An invitation to have a great time while visiting the mountain refuges to complete an itinerary in pursuit of taste, sport, and well-being.
At the same time, from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm, Test the Best is held in Piz La Ila, in collaboration with Pool Sci Italia. Here you can test skis, helmets, safeguards, glasses, and the most technologically advanced products in general, made available by the top brands in the sports sector.
This first series of events are rounded off with the traditional festivals, Christmas, New Year and Epiphany arrive, magical moments to be experienced against the backdrop of Movimënt, among snowy peaks, always perfect slopes and mountain refuges where you can taste typical dishes in a warm and cosy environment.
Movimënt Days begin with determination on 16th January, 27th February and 8th March, giving you special occasions to explore the variety of activities that the park has to offer. In fact, anyone who completes the Movimënt Challenge circuit - open throughout the season - on these days will receive a fun gadget.
The circuit includes the Parallel slalom on the Prè dai Corf slope, the timed parallel slalom to challenge your friends, and two descents with video cameras along the sides of the run, which allow you to watch your run, download the video (via www.skiline.cc) and share it: for example, you can dance between the poles of the Movie Slalom at the arrival of the Col Alt da Corvara cable car, or challenge yourself at the Speedcheck time trial, testing your speed down the Capanna Nera slope in Corvara.
On 9th February the Rookie Battle Alta Badia sees freestyle and acrobatics on the halfpipe, an event for young snowboarders organised in the Snowpark Alta Badia, on the Ciampai slope, while on 11th March the scene is set for Follow me on the Funcross Biok/La Para slope. A photographer and a drone will shoot footage of whoever comes down throughout the day, giving you the opportunity to be immortalised while having fun among waves of snow, jibs and jumps, and then share the video on your social media.
The season closes on Easter Monday, April 13th, with the Vintage Party: travel back in time to the 70s and 80s, among goggles, colourful ski jackets, skis without carving and lots of themed dishes and drinks offered by the refuges along the ski run.
